Phillip Barker is a Managing Director in the Seattle office of Guy Carpenter, continuing his professional career that has been focused solely on client advisory work. After being charged with developing a platform for Guy Carpenter to expand its US health business in 2012, the resulting success has led to further segmentation to drive focus within that platform. Phillip continues to be a prominent member within the payor, provider and self-funded platforms—focusing primarily on structured risk transactions enabling more improved capital management strategies, Phillip is uniquely positioned to assist clients as they determine how to most efficiently address the risk they encounter thru contractual relationships with members, providers and employers.
Graduating in 2001 with honors from University of Puget Sound with a double major in mathematics and economics, Phillip then went to work at Arthur Andersen after being offered a position in their management consulting segment. Shortly after industry changing events were set into motion, eventually resulting in the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, he started working with Guy Carpenter & Company.
Prior to attending college, Phillip spent time commercial fishing in Alaska and forestry operations in the Pacific Northwest, gaining a firsthand appreciation for the value of employee benefits and accident insurance.
